Once More Unto The Breach
Further to my last entry, Elana is continuing to fight a good fight on Feministing with this post. I seriously doubt I will comment, I’m not even sure I want to read the comments that much once it gets going. But kudos, Elana, for a very, very, pertinent and well made point. And for continuing [...]

Feministing and Unchecked Prejudice
I really would like to like Feministing. I’ve tried to. As others have called for boycotts to draw attention to transphobia there, or organised open letters to point out the ableism, blogged about the racism, I kept reading, kept wanting to find good in it. Thing is that sometimes there is. It’s a big site [...]

Just Because
Just because you aren’t racist, doesn’t mean you never have a racist thought or say something racist.
If you aren’t homophobic, you will still sometimes express a bigoted sentiment.
Even if you are not sexist, sometimes you will say something or believe something that is.
If you don’t fear trans people, it doesn’t mean you don’t have transphobic [...]

Eric
We went to see the new Ken Loach film, “Looking for Eric” last night. It was really good! You don’t need to be particularly aware of who Eric Cantona is/was to enjoy it but it helps for some of the nuances. Sometimes Loach’s films leave me feeling the message was more important than the characters, [...]
Notorious
I’ve had a few conversations about anger in the last couple of months. Indeed, my last few posts have been about an event that has caused anger, that included anger in it. In fact, I read this today, on a very definitely trans ally person’s blog (not saying which because who wrote it is not [...]
Cis
There’s a rather large blogsplosion going on, based on the response to, and subsequent “debate” around, the term cis. In the best tradition of blogging about blogging and sticking one’s oar in to a debate that you are only tenuously connected to by reading about it while linking to other blogs, I’m going to do [...]

Rainbow of Humanity
Over at The Thang Blog Rebecca has posted a good summary of how recent problems faced by trans women in feminist community blogs played out, particularly in relation to her own experience on Feministing. My personal opinion on the matter is pretty close to hers but that is not what I want to write about. [...]

Story of Stuff
Sometimes you come across something that explains a complex idea really well. This is one such thing, Story of Stuff. It’s partisan and US centric but it’s one of the most accessible explanations of how the consumer society model has created and perpetuates environmental damage and the economic exploitation of the third world and people [...]
